Apprenticeships, Traineeships & Work Experience
We offer nationally recognised apprenticeships and traineeships in a variety of study areas plus unpaid work experience for students at school TAFE or university.

Build your career with Council

We offer nationally recognised apprenticeships and traineeships in a variety of study areas including electrical, mechanical, carpentry and painting, childcare, horticulture, civil construction, warehousing, water treatment, surveying, metal fabrication, boiler making and fitting.

Apprentices and trainees receive on-the-job expert mentoring by skilled professionals and teams. They are given time to attend study and have access to other great benefits of working at Council, such as the rewards and recognition program and Fitness Passport.

How to apply

Apprenticeships and traineeships are advertised in local media and on our Current Vacancies page. Please apply the same way you would for any job and respond to the requirements outlined in the advertisement.

Work experience

We also offer a number of unpaid work experience placements for students undertaking educational training at school, TAFE or university as well as those from approved referral agencies.

Placements are generally limited to one week. However, we do try to work with applicants to meet the placement hours required by their course.

While we attempt to accommodate as many applicants as possible, demand can often exceed availability, especially during peak periods.

Eligibility criteria

  • Currently studying (high school – Years 10, 11 or 12, TAFE, university) or registered with an approved referral agency.
  • Able to provide insurance coverage (certificate of currency for Public Liability and Personal Injury insurance) from your place of study or referral agency.

Applicants with a disability are encouraged to apply. Should you have any special needs, contact our Work Experience Coordinator at Workexperience@centralcoast.nsw.gov.au to discuss and make appropriate arrangements.

How to apply

Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances we are not currently taking applications for work experience.
